Principal's Report

Dear Families,

Welcome to the first newsletter of 2025! We are so excited about what’s to come, with so much to look forward to across the year. Here on our weekly newsletters, you will find weekly SWPBS award winners, updates on events and important information, as well as a celebration of work and sharing of some of the fun that students experience each week.

Classes are settling really well with our values of resilience, respect and responsibility shining through. Students and staff have been busy learning and collaborating on procedures and expectations that will set them up for a positive and successful year ahead. We are excited to have student diaries return this year, which are packed with helpful activities and suggestions for supporting wellbeing and positive learning strategies.

SUNSMART

As we progress through the warmer months, it's essential for staff, parents, and students to work together to support sun safety. In Victoria, it is recommended that we implement a combination of sun protection measures between 1st September and 30th April and whenever UV levels reach 3 or above. This includes wearing sun-protective clothing, applying broad-spectrum sunscreen, and seeking shade during peak UV times. Students are required to always wear a hat at school when outside during these months.

Thank you for your cooperation in making our school a SunSmart environment! For additional resources and tips on sun protection, please see attached SunSmart Information Sheet or visit SunSmart’s website.

ROAD SAFETY

A reminder to all families of our shared commitment to road safety, particularly around the use of the school car park. Please take this opportunity to review our carpark rules and drop-and-go procedures, in accordance with our school’s Traffic Management Plan.

Measures include:

·       Signage: Entry and exit points are clearly marked.

·       Designated Areas: Drop-off and pick-up zones with protected pedestrian path

·       Markings: Signage and bollards indicate designated areas

·       Pedestrian Crossings: parents must escort students across roads and make use of any of the three entry gates for pedestrians

·       Traffic Control & PPE: Staff supervise before and after school

·       Speed Restrictions: Signs are placed along driveway, 5 km/hr speed limit

SCHOOL POLICIES

To uphold my commitment to clear communication and transparency with our school community, the school is currently undertaking a review of many school policies. Providing clear and accessible policies is essential in maintaining our professional obligations and ensuring we create the best possible school environment. This process helps us support a safe, happy, and inclusive space where all students feel ready to learn and thrive.

We are committed to upholding policies with professionalism and dedication. We value and encourage community feedback to ensure our policies reflect the needs and expectations of our community in line with Department of Education guidance and our school values and philosophy. We invite families to take the time to read the policies below to help inform and ensure a successful, collective approach to the care and success of all students at Wallington Primary School. A list of policies currently under review is available on the school website:

https://www.wallington-ps.vic.edu.au/policies-1

Please send any feedback to the school email (wallington.ps@education.vic.gov.au) by Friday 21st February.

COMPASS

If ever you need support or guidance on how to use Compass, please be sure to contact the office and we will be happy to help. As well as being our key communication platform, parents/carers are also able to report absences, access Compass Calendar for important dates, consent and pay for excursions and events and access academic reports. Additionally, parents and carers can make parent payments and curriculum contributions for 2025 through Compass, which are welcome throughout the year.

MEET & GREET PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS

One final reminder, Meet & Greet Parent-Teacher interviews are open for booking on Compass. These will take place next Tuesday afternoon 11th February with appointments open until 6:10pm. Again, if you need any support in accessing Compass and making a booking, as always do not hesitate to enquire at the front office and we will be happy to help.

Year 3/4  -Clay Fairy Doors

These fabulous fairy doors were created at the end of last year by 3/4 students. They were created by rolling a slab of earthenware clay and pressing a doily or rubbing plate into the clay. Pieces of clay were added to make a door handle, rocks or vines, using joining techniques. Look out for some of these fairy doors in the trees in our school yard, see if you can spot where they are! Great job 3/4s!
